My Students

My students are in temporary housing. I am the community coordinator and I support students and their families with housing, benefits, and all other needs.

While many of my students are experiencing displacement, homelessness, doubled up, ​etc.

many of them are still doing well in class and are resilient enough not to let those circumstances stop them from being all they can be.

My students are special needs and are diagnosed with different mental, educational, or social disabilities. They still work just as hard as the students in general education.

My Project

Hello!

The holidays are a hard time for a lot of students across the city.

In order to help bring some cheer after a tough year, I would like to set up a "shop" for the holidays to be able to help my students learn the power of purchasing gifts, toys, wrapping paper or bags, and other holiday trinkets like the widely popular "pop its".

For our lesson, we are going to learn about buying with uneven totals. Most students know how to give change back when the amount is even, but I will be pricing these items with uneven amounts to assist them with learning how much change they're supposed to give and get. I will use the lights and ornaments to decorate the classroom. I will put price tags on each of the items and give out a certain amount of money when the students complete their tasks, are doing well behaviorally, and assist others.

I believe this will be a great project to show financial literacy and spread holiday cheer at the same time!
