My Students
Encinal Jr. and Sr. High is an amazing school with a student population that is extremely diverse. Our students at Encinal Jr. and Sr. High have the benefit of attending an incredibly diverse school. This allows for students to be exposed to many different cultures and learn from each other. Encinal is the hub for English Learners. We have approximately 22 different ethnicities and just as many languages. Encinal Jr. and Sr. High has a large homeless population and more than half of the student population is eligible for free and reduced lunch. Although many of our students struggle with many daily life challenges, the atmosphere here at school is amazing. The sense of community at Encinal Jr. and Sr. high is incredible. We work hard to support all students with all backgrounds and this is why we are such a great school.
My Project
We live in a world where the history of others is often forgotten. Many people know about the Holocaust but few can remember details, names or even why it occurred.
This donation will allow for students to embark on a journey where they see first hand how Jewish people were treated during the Holocaust and their struggle to survive the most heinous period in history.
Maus is a graphic novel that captures the eye and the heart of its readers while detailing the life of the author's father during the Holocaust.
Too often history is believed to be nameless faces and unimportant facts. Maus helps to bring history alive in the classroom that encourages much-needed discussions about race and place faces to some of the nameless people in history.
