My Project

I am a teacher in a special education self-contained support classroom. I have 12 students in grades 1-3. All twelve of my students have IEPs and extensive learning needs, most specifically in the areas of receptive and expressive communication. In addition to their learning disabilities, several of my students speak a language other than English in their homes. Because of their wide range of ability levels, the majority of classroom instruction must be delivered in small groups or one on one situations. The classroom supplies and TPT gift card will allow me to differentiate each lesson to support students with varied needs.

My students are hard working and eager to learn!

The majority of my students also have deficits in their executive functioning; they are often impulsive and have difficulty controlling their emotions, bodies, etc. Providing them with cushions that they can use at their desks or at the carpet will give them a visual boundary for appropriate classroom behavior (no kicking your classmates at the carpet!) and will benefit students with sensory issues. Larger crayons, and spring assisted scissors will help students that struggle with fine motor skills.

They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects that help them understand the world around them. Although they have many more challenges than their typical peers, they come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!
