My Students

"Can we do it again?" my students often ask after we play a reading or math game as a whole class. The students in my kindergarten class love to learn through games and hands-on activities, and I love to reinforce skills or teach new concepts this way.

I am a kindergarten teacher at an inner city school in Philadelphia.

Our school is in its third year as a turnaround school. Approximately 96 percent of students receive free or reduced lunches. The students that greet me every morning are intelligent, curious, and loving. Although my students face challenges, they are always eager to learn and focus on their lessons. They have a strong desire to attend college and know that hard word equals success!

My Project

As an early childhood educator, I know that my young students learn best when the learning experiences are child-centered, hands-on, and engaging. It is my goal to find any way I can to provide them with more materials that help them learn in these ways. Phonics games, hands-on alphabet materials, and math activities will help me reach this goal. These resources will help my students apply and practice what they are learning. They will also create enthusiasm and excitement in my students as they learn the basic reading and math skills they need to succeed!

My students are at a critical point in their academic development.
