My Students

My students want to learn Social Studies/Social Science through a music curriculum. The music curriculum is built around media that are sure to excite and engage even the most reluctant students.

My students are a diverse bunch that reside in a poverty stricken area with big dreams and hope for more.

Some of my students are learning English as a second language, some have special needs, some are gifted, and all of them love to learn. I teach Social Studies/Social Science, with a music curriculum the students will not merely listen to songs, but will also view live musical performances, interviews with artists and historical figures and historical footage that will help them better understand the social and political context from which different songs emerged.

My kids are excited as every to be back in class as it is a sense of normalcy.

My Project

Our world is quickly becoming dependent on the use of technology. We see it everywhere! Our students are expected to learn, play, and even test on computers. However, there is not enough technology for every student and often times they have to share with a 5 students to 1 computer ratio. I am asking for Amazon Fire Tablets, a printer, and paper so students can learn Social Studies and Social Science through music and color pictures.

Flocabulary connects the curriculum through hip-hop which allows the student to remember facts in a fun way.

The students will use Brain Pop and Kahoot to watch videos and complete quizzes. This technology will benefit all of the students in my class. When using software or various learning websites, such as Flocabulary, Imagine Learning, Brain Pop and Kahoot the content can be adjusted to the level of the student.

This way the struggling students can be met at their level, gifted students can be met at their level, and every other student at their level in between.
