My Students

The students in my class are creative and unique in their own ways. We are an ICT classroom which means there are general education students and students with special needs. We have a very diverse classroom, from students who are trying to learn a new language, to students who are dealing with social and emotion issues, to students with special needs and much more. Since we are in a low income area and have a lot of immigrant families the kids are learning about a new place they are living in, learning a new language and assimilating to a new culture all at the same time. We work in a school where a majority of the students are considered the 1st generation in America. They need as much support as they can get in this new place they call home and school is sometimes their own constant.

Our students are like our own kids.

These children have been through more than many adults that I know and are so resilient. They need as much support and encouragement from people around them. We try to provide them with whatever they need to give them a safe and exhilarating learning experience.

My Project

We wants to build a learning community in our classroom where students learn to work together and be creative. STEM projects not only challenge my students brains, but also teach them life lessons like trial and error, working together, problem solving and have fun.

Learning to read and write is important but learning should also be fun, exciting and engaging.

Some of the materials we are requesting are play doh, kinetic sand, therapuddy, magnets, velcro, popsicle stick all that help engage our students in learning. We want to create STEM bins for the students to challenge their brains and be creative. These activities not only will challenge the students and allow them to be creative but it will also lead in a literacy component as well. These materials will be used to create bins where students can have access to when they feel like they need a brain break, or some time alone, or during full class community building time.
