This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Young students are very curious and are always interested in knowing how things work. It is that reason why I want to expose them to see how many of the topics we learn from our science lessons work. For example, we recently investigated the anatomy of an apple and why an apple floats in water instead of sinking. They wanted an explanation beyond reading about it, they wanted visuals so they could understand it more. I borrowed a microscope from my friend who teaches middle school, and showed them that apples have a porous flesh. The amazement in their eyes inspired me to request a microscope that I can use in my class to project many of our science topics, and mini microscopes they can use for hands-on learning. Having these learning tools in my classroom will help my students discover science beyond text and pictures. My students come from an underserved population where they are not exposed to having access to these tools at home or at school. I believe that every student deserves exposure to learning materials that will awaken a desire for focusing in an area of interest, or at least discover past whats available to them.
