My Students

As a teacher in a high poverty/ low-income school district, my students face many challenges that stunt their ability to become successful contributions to our society. Some of these challenges exist before the students even leave their homes to come to school in the morning.

However, despite the challenges, my students come to school with a smile on their face excited to learn each day.

As their educator, it is up to me to create a friendly and caring environment that allows every child to feel safe and invited. My students are caring, clever, and innovative. I strive to create a classroom culture that is caring and comfortable in order for them to be successful.

My Project

Having a designated spot for my students to sit together and share their thinking is vital for their young minds. We will use this rug when reading stories, solving mathematical problems, and participating in classroom culture meetings.

Giving low-income students the opportunity to sit together and share ideas is an investment in their social and academic futures.

This project will be used everyday and will encourage students to be apart of a calm and friendly learning environment. It will create a meaningful difference in the lives of my students and allow them to talk to one another and think critically about what they are learning each and everyday.
