My 2nd-5th grade students are all deaf or hard-of-hearing, but that's where the similarities end!
My students come from many different countries, cultures, and backgrounds.
Some have been at our school since they were three, others have just arrived with interrupted education or little-to-no access to language in their home country. Most are considered English Language Learners. Many have disabilities such visual impairments, developmental delays, or emotional/behavioral challenges. Some students sign, some talk, some use AAC (augmentative and alternative communication), some do a little of everything. They are resilient, funny, and hardworking students. I am proud to work with them every day!
My Project
My project will provide much needed supplies and opportunities for the children in our school and show them that science and math is everywhere around them. My students need an laptop computer to access important resources that are available online. I want my students to have access to critical science and math curriculum, videos, tools, and language models in American Sign Language.
With accessible learning, our students can achieve anything!
Students would be able to interact with classroom materials like never before!
Adding a classroom laptop with a backpack will bring new life to our classroom; providing access to learning and hands on experiences to more of my deaf and hard of hearing students. Interactive and engaging lessons would further support their development of language and vocabulary. Our new math curriculum contains daily projectable content! Being able to project content will allow me to teach with my hands free to communicate clearly; also allowing students to manipulate materials easily. Will you help us improve our learning, technology skills, and access to the curriculum by funding a classroom laptop?
