Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school year is very chaotic this year. I was relocated into an English as a Second Language position mid year so I have NO supplies for my students to use. We do not have paper, pencils, notebooks, copy paper, and most importantly to me, NO TECHNOLOGY. I purchased all I could to get us started

My students are WONDERFUL little learners.

I have 1/3 population of Kindergarten students as ESOL learners and the rest are a mixture of 1-8 students. They all work very hard and want to learn. My school is a high needs school in many ways. The school itself has little to no resources to give the student and the students are at a high poverty level. This is an urban district what has had SEVERE budget cuts that have effected ALL of our students in so many ways. I am servicing students in the middle school and elementary buildings so I am traveling with many supplies between the buildings daily. We have no after school programs, nothing that makes learning FUN for the kids. FUN LEARNING is a vital part of education. When children ENJOY learning, they will crave it :)

My Project

Most importantly, my students will be able to use technology to apply concepts that they will learn about through my lessons in a fun way. I currently do not have any technology for my ESOL classes in the Little School House, so I have been bringing my personal tablet in for the use of educational purposes. It was made a wonderful improvement in my classes. For example, My Kindergarten students have been learning the alphabet and their sounds in order to make words. I use a free site that has interactive games and songs on it for all of the letters. Once I started using this site with them, I saw an improvement in my children who were making minimum progress up until that point. I know that this will continue to be the case across the board. Other supplies besides the technology are a necessary. The children need paper and pencils in order to complete practice work and writing skills. Writing is a lifelong essential skill for everyone.

Your donations will improve the learning that happens within my classroom.

I have already seen improvement amongst my children and want to continue seeing that improvement. Practicing and applying what they have learned in FUN ways is going to make them retain what they are learning and use it correctly. Please help me help them :)
