My Students

My students are curious about the world that is ahead of them. They are constantly asking questions and often finding their own answers. For most of my students, it is their first time in middle school. In this new school, they are navigating their way through the halls and through the characteristics of the people they want to be. This is a time in their lives where their responsibilities, expectations, and goals are changing along with them. I would like to supply my classroom with books that are age-appropriate and with main characters that are going through some of the same challenges and choices my students are.

My Project

The world is changing. New ideas are being put forward, and older ideas or ideologies are being thrown out.

It is important for students to be able to look at the lives of others so that they can learn to be more empathetic, compassionate, and understanding.

It is my goal this year to cultivate a classroom that is more inclusive and the best way to do this is through relatable characters going through similar obstacles as the current students. The books that I am requesting for my students all look at different races, religions, and genders. These books will allow understanding through characters and character traits, that these students might possibly never know without them.
