Learning Math Using Manipulatives

My students need 18 geoboards, 20 student numberlines, 1 set of math manipulatives, 1 set of wooden geometric shapes, 36 inch/centimeter rulers, a set of 20 calculators and one overhead calculator.

Students need to learn to count, measure and manipulate numbers and number situations.

The students at the school where I teach are inner city at-risk students. These students are growing up in poverty, and these students don't get many of the luxuries that students in other schools might get. These students have parents that are not able purchase school supplies or any other type of resources for their children. These students are in dire need of help from sources other than parents. These students are eager to learn, just as other students would be. The only difference is that these students lack the resources that other students have.

The solution to this problem is the purchase of math manipulatives for these students. These students learn best by manipulating and working in learning centers. Our school is in need of these types of manipulatives so that these students will be able to learn the required skills in order for them to perform satisfactorily in class, as well as on state achievement tests.

Your donation would mean a lot to the students in my class. They are so eager to learn, and I am working diligently to make sure that they receive the best possible education. I have spent money on many of the resources that we receive, but I need your help to purchase the remainder of our manipulatives. We thank you in advance for all of the help that you will give us.
