My students need to have many experiences with different types of manipulatives relating to math concepts because they come from disadvantaged families that can't provide these experiences for them.

I am a bilingual prekindergarten teacher. My students come from a Title 1 school which means that there is a high percentage of students that are from a lower socioeconomic background.
"Bilingual children have demonstrated increased problem solving abilities, better working memory and improved capacity for abstract thinking, among other benefits." (article on the Teddy Bear Club website about a preschool that offers bilingual education which describes the benefits of bilingual education.)
Many of my students' parents come straight from Mexico and they don't really have the knowledge on how to help their children succeed in school so they are at a disadvantage already. Also, my students come into school lacking many skills such as cutting, writing or recognizing their names, knowing how to count at all. Many are totally unfamiliar with many math and language arts concepts.
I would like to enhance their learning experience in my classroom by being able to offer them as many opportunities to use games, manipulatives and books related to math since I see a weakness in this area for many of my students.
My Project
I am asking for a variety of math resources including a complete set of Early Math Instant Learning Centers, a master set of Magna-Tiles, and a complete set of Self-Checking Magnetic Math Cards.
My students will be able to use the different math manipulatives to increase their experiences so that they can master the concepts that they need before they enter kindergarten.
Through the use of the different counting of different types of objects and matching them to the appropriate numerals my students will have a better understanding of number concepts.
The magnetic shapes will help in problem solving skills and it will also help in their learning of basic shapes. The games that they will use during their center time will help to enhance what they have learned in large group lessons. They will be given a chance to practice what they have learned in a more meaningful way rather than using worksheets which are not age appropriate for young children.
