My Students

My students are phenomenal. This is 4th year at my school and my 6th teaching and every student that has come through my classroom so far holds a special place in my heart. It amazes me how kind, thoughtful, funny, and intelligent all of these kids are and it makes me want to do everything I can to give back to them.

This school is so special to me, as are the kids, because this is my hometown.

I walked the same halls, lived in the same areas, and even had some of the same teachers. Now I am back and I want to do everything in my power to make their experience as special as mine was.

My Project

I am looking to update my classroom with new flex seating, whiteboard paint on all the desks, a lamp, and static cling graphs to place on the whiteboards. I firmly believe that when today's students can come into a classroom that looks "cool" students start to think learning can be cool.

I would like to update my currently flex seating from fabric options to a durable, soft polyurethane cover that is easy to clean and maintain; which helps me keep my classroom as germ free as possible The whiteboard paint will help me give each student a desk that is also a place to show their scratch work.

Students will help me eliminate paper waste by writing the work with a dry erase marker on the desk, upload pictures to schoology! This also provides a fun alternative to the paper pencil math we are all used to!

The lamp will help me provide a neat lighting alternative for students as opposed to the harsh classroom lighting. I have found that sometimes a softer lighting alternative can help keep a calm learning environment. The static cling grids would be an awesome addition, because it would give me the ability to more easily teach kids how to graph, rotate shapes, find slope, and so many other techniques that it is hard to do without a large grid to work with!
