Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
When I decided to teach special education, my motto was, "If children don't learn the way we teach, then teach the way that they learn." In my class, I still go by that motto. These materials will help me teach my students in the way that they learn best!
I teach in a Title I school, which means that a lot of our students live in poverty.
We also live in an area where a lot of families do not use English as the primary language at home. I teach in a severe and profound special education classroom for first and second graders. My children are amazing and overcome so much each day. They want to learn new things and they really enjoy school. Most of the students that I teach are non-verbal and have limited motor skills. My students who are not non-verbal still have limited language skills and generally speak using one word requests. They are on the Alabama Alternate Assessment pathway and follow the Alabama Extended Standards. They love to play games to help them learn and they really like to be busy doing activities.
My Project
We will use these materials to complete our learning stations. There are three different stations for reading and math time and each station has different activities. These materials will give my students a variety of activities to complete, which will keep their attention. This will also help keep my students from getting bored with the activities they have. Items such as the Lady Bug Letters will give them the chance to match letters and show how much they know in a hands on way. The Peg Number Board and Number Match games will help them with their numbers and their fine and gross motor skills at the same time.
This project will make a difference in my students' lives by giving them more hands-on activities for them to learn by.
This will also continue to help students as the years pass on.
