Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a true inspiration. They are curious, inquisitive and eager learners, making everyday a new adventure. This group includes several English learners and 2 special needs children with approximately 3/4 being low income. While many come from Latin and Hispanic homes that speak no English, they work hard everyday to pick up the language. To see them learn is to witness a beautiful miracle, because their resilience and tenacity are unfaltering. They deserve the very best and I aim to provide that for them in our classroom.

My Project

Kindergarten can be greatly diverse, in that we have students coming in who may have been to pre-k, day care or that have never been to school before. Add the fact that many students come from Spanish speaking homes and don’t know a word of English, and educating them becomes that much more challenging. As such, I would like to offer a variety of hands-on activities, games and resources to my students, in order to best prepare them for first grade. These games, flash cards and writing boards with markers and erasers, will be divided among Differentiated Instruction centers, where students will be allowed to explore phonics and literacy. Literacy is at the forefront of all our achievements. Help me to give my students the necessary tools to exceed their literacy goals.
