My Students

My students are amazing! We are a class of third graders in a rural area of West Virginia. Each of my students comes from a unique background, with various home lives and opportunities. Even with our differences, we form a wonderful learning community. We enjoy asking questions and exploring. We enjoy playing games and laughing while we're learning. Most importantly, we enjoy cooperation, collaboration, and teamwork.

We are located in a small, rural school in a high poverty area of West Virginia.

Despite their positive attitudes and eagerness to learn, many of my students have difficult home lives and come to school looking for comfort and security. Because of our high poverty rate, our school receives many federal grants that allow us to purchase the necessities for students. However, because the need is so great, once the necessities are purchased, little or no money is left for "extra" things.

My Project

This year has been tough! Our schedule has changed many times as we've dealt with the effects of the pandemic. Students have learned at school on a blended schedule, complete remote at home, and now, we are face-to-face at school!

Despite the difficult year, my students have continued to preserver and have made excellent gains in their reading and math skills.

We would like to celebrate the end of the year with a Learning Luau. During the Luau, students will have the opportunity to play games and do craft projects.

To make this a success, we need supplies! We would like each student to tie dye a t-shirt to wear at the luau. We would also like to make sand art crafts and paint a beach sunset scene. The supplies provided through this project would give us the opportunity to create a Learning Luau that students would never forget to celebrate their hard work this school year!
