Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classes consist of a very diverse group of 7th grade students, from a variety of backgrounds. More than 75% of my students are eligible for free lunch. Most importantly, they are very bright and eager to learn.

The students in my classes are working hard towards a high-stakes ELA test, and they need all the resources they can get in order to help them reach their goals and achieve academic success.

They enjoy facilitating group discussions and showing off their close-reading skills. My students are great collaborators, and together they form a tight-knit classroom community that I am extremely proud of.

My Project

With so many amazing resources available to teachers today, it's easy to find, share, and/or create activities that meet the needs of any student. However, whether it's cutting up cards for a word sort, printing color photos for a gallery walk, or organizing materials for a station activity, one question always haunts us: Will these materials survive the day?? I have found the answer to be a simple one: Yes...if you laminate.

A new laminating machine for the classroom would give me the freedom to create colorful, engaging activities for my students without the need to constantly re-think, re-print, and re-cut an activity over and over, year after year.

This laminating machine would also allow me to preserve many of the larger posters and anchor charts that cover the walls of the classroom. Beautiful online resources could be printed in color and laminated, hung on the walls for students to reference, or used as scaffolds that would hold up during the course or a day, year, or longer! Unlike the re-used, and in some cases slightly ripped, worn, or damaged posters and reference charts that often struggle to survive the school year, having the ability to display bright, clean, colorful classroom visuals that look brand new would give the students a room to be proud of!
