Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of my students have limited resources both at home and at school. I work with special needs students who are between the ages of 3 and 5 years old in a preschool for all learners day program. My students come from a low-income background and many of them have experienced difficult situations. To a lot of them, my classroom is a safe zone where they are cared for, provided with a breakfast and lunch, and where they can be themselves and no one will judge them. My students love hands-on material and visuals. Sometimes it is difficult to provide them with all the help they need because of lack of material.

My Project

Using multi-sensory teaching is a way in which I can help my students learn through more than one sense. The material I chose will help them have access to different objects they can physically feel, smell, explore and touch. I will be using the material during sensory play. The material will stimulate my student's senses, like touch, smell, movement, and sight.

My students will be able to explore the molding sand, and they will be encouraged to play, create, investigate, and explore the sensory material provided.

My students will use the molding sand, kinetic sand, sensory dough, scented dough, sensory sand set, and modeling foam during our learning centers. I will place them on our sensory table and they will be able to explore the material while I facilitate the activities and encourage them to touch, smell, and create different things with the sensory material.

Providing them with the opportunity to explore new material will also give them the ability to develop language, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, social interactions, and problem solving skills. By donating to our project, you will help to improve and increase my student development as well as giving them the opportunity to have access to material that will increase their sensory processing skills.
