We need this virtual reality set in order to incentivize positive behaviors instead of creating a negative school culture that results in increased suspensions and disengagement for our population of students have been previously disengaged.

About My Students

Jonathan, Tyler, Aaron, and Jala are student leaders who came together to brainstorm ways to utilize student voice to improve our school community. They are very driven, highly motivated, passionate, leaders who want to be agents of change, but are aware of the limitations to their hopes for our school community.

Aaron is a film maker who loves technology and editing videos for our school.

Jonathan loves music and singing and dancing.

Jala and Tyler are both history buffs who love music!

Students will create a positive behavior point system. Students who develop positive social emotional skills and earn "X" amount of points will earn the reward of using the Virtual Reality Set.

Students will choose a Virtual Reality Program that aligns with one of their courses: visit the moon for Science class, visit the Roman Coliseum for Global History, explore the melting ice caps to understand climate change.

Students will then write a reflection that is common core aligned in order to support skills that prepare them for college and career.

HONORS students can also use the Virtual Reality set to participate in Challenge Projects that they design!

In Their Own Words

We want to promote positive behaviors in our school and create a fun learning environment that we are excited to come to everyday! Our ultimate goal would be to transform our school culture to one that builds empathy, respect, and kindness through our "MHA Character Values" of the Month and this virtual reality set will act as the incentive for students!

As leaders, we will create the point system, track it, and help support other students in reaching their goals. We will lead students to make good decisions and the virtual reality set will give us the incentive we need to offer something most students will find unique, fun, and exciting!

Many of our students have difficult home lives or challenging obstacles outside of school. We hope they can escape that reality in a fun way while also learning and having a fun reason to come to school! We hope this will help us come together to celebrate our shared values and build a more positive school community. Students will use the virtual reality set to design their own community projects that relate to climate change and/or social justice!
