We are preparing children for careers we haven't even imagined yet. We need imaginative, creative problem-solvers in our next generation, but traditional education with worksheets and lectures does not provide training for this. Our kids need time to do hands on unstructured learning.
My students are thinkers.
They are questioners. They are learners. They are well-behaved and learn well in the structured classroom, but they struggle with unstructured time. This is something I would like them to see improve. Our school is a true community school. Parents are helpful where they can be and support new learning opportunities for their students. Our staff support one another and work hard to be innovative and engaging with their students. Everyone has enjoyed learning to code over the last few weeks, and this project will further that endeavor.
My Project
This year we began our first Monday Morning Maker meetings. We started with one circuitry kit, but saw that we needed a more comprehensive set. These circuitry sets will be used during technology and media classes to support STEM programs. We will also use these kits during our Monday Morning Makers. By using these kits, students will be able to learn about electricity and how to build items that use technology. By learning these skills, students will be preparing for technology careers and future science classes. These kits will inspire our students to become future inventors and solvers of important problems.
