Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at my school are hungry for knowledge and new learning experiences. They are curious about their world, and thrive on new challenges. They are passionate readers and have many questions about people, languages, art, music, cultures and the world.

My students come from diverse cultural backgrounds, which I believe should be embraced.

They come from young families who are exited to work together and who are involved in their child's education. The students at my school not only come with unique backgrounds and experiences, but have learned to respect and value one another.

With the recent world events, media, and politics, I'm afraid my students will be faced with negative influences as they work, learn, and live together. Although I will not be able to shelter them from the events that occur outside our classroom, I can encourage them to keep learning more, appreciate others, continue to be kind, and make good choices from the heart.

My Project

I am very excited about the possibilities for my project. The Continental Wonders Map Rug I am requesting displays the iconic landmarks of the world. Not only will this rug give my students a comfortable place to sit, this amazing rug also highlights the physical features of each continent, including mountains, forests and glaciers. I can only imagine my students' curiosity about all the areas of the world when they use it.

My students need this rug to to inspire reading, multicultural awareness, and to help teach them important geography lessons.

I will highlight a country every month, and create a unit of instruction using literature, art, food, music, and important landmarks. My students will be so excited to take turns choosing an area from the rug to explore as a class.

I know I will inspire learning with this rug, not only in the core academics of reading, writing, and math, but also inspire learning about the world. My students will see the possibilities of where learning to read will take them. They will be engaged in activities that teach them how to appreciate other cultures from around the world. My students will learn to value diversity and hopefully pass it on for generations to come.
