Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Title I school in a city school district. In our public city school, many scholars are diverse, multiple language learners and at-risk readers. Currently, the entire school population receives free breakfast and lunch. Many scholars are also from low-income households. However, they are warm, loving, and continually searching for ways to grow and become better each day. I am honored to teach such wonderful children.

I enjoy providing scholars a multitude of experiences to connect the curriculum and enhance their learning while promoting equitable access and allowing them to be creative and stimulate their curiosity.

My scholars are eager to learn, excel and connect the curriculum in the school library media center. As the school librarian, I am able to reach every student in the school. I have been teaching for eighteen years and I take a great deal of pride in my work. I strive to make learning fun and engaging as I have been focusing on transdisciplinary learning to help scholars have authentic and powerful learning experiences.

My Project

The requested materials, keyboard, wi-fi extender and water bottles will be used to establish shine projects that will help foster creation over consumption. Similarly to a passion project or a genius hour, the shine project is all encompassing and builds an independent learner. The contrast, however, is that there is a service learning or giving back to the community component. Scholars will be participating in projects that help them develop voice and ultimately agency and shine. Hence, the name.

Working along side the school librarian, children will identify a community problem, work towards a solution and connect it to the curriculum.

The requested tools, keyboard and wi-fi extender will facilitate communication, research and ultimately an end project infographic presentation. Scholars will be propelled towards discovery, tinkering and making, which promotes the highest form of learning. The water bottles will be used for a design project in use with the cricut.
