My Students

Students in my class all live within walking distance of school but despite their geographical similarities, they represent a myriad of backgrounds in terms of race, ethnicity, language and socioeconomics. At school, we focus on collaboration and find ways to work together to build a strong classroom and a stronger school community by capitalizing on the strengths that come from our diversity. We work hard every day to make our great school even better and more inclusive of our diversity.

My Project

Students spend nearly half of their waking hours in school--as do teachers! My goal is to make our room a warm, welcoming and comfortable space in which students feel at home and ready to learn.

By outfitting our room with two more hokki stools, a new library carpet and additional floor lamps, our classroom can support students in their growth and development by responding to their needs for movement and physical comfort.

My hope is that our classroom truly be an environment that allows students to move and work freely, opening up space for new thinking and collaboration. By organizing the classroom with students' developmental, physical and social needs in mind, I also hope to give them ownership over the classroom leading to more community building and a greater sense of responsibility.
