My students need pictures to help them communicate their wants and needs. I work with kids who take things literal and so I need a color printer to print pictures in color to help their understanding.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a Functional Life Skills classroom. The students in my classroom range from age 5-9 years old, Kindergarten through third grade. My students are my babies and they are amazing!

My students all have disabilities and those disabilities range from high-functioning Autism to low-functioning Autism, Down Syndrome, Intellectual Disabilities, and Cerebral Palsy.

They all have severe behavior, communication, and academic needs. In fact, my classroom is considered to be one of the most difficult classes within my school district in terms of academic and behavior challenges.

My Project

My students are all either non-verbal or have limited communication skills, therefore they use pictures as an alternative to verbal communication. My students take things literally and also are able to understand pictures from of images better when they are in color. This helps increase the literalness of what is being expressed in the pictures. I work in a Title 1 school with limited access to a color printer. My students need color images to help increase their understanding. This will help decrease classroom behaviors regarding communication. It will also help provide more academic opportunities to all of my brilliant students.
