Each child in my classroom loves learning and comes to school each morning eager to enter class with a big smile on their faces. My students have outstanding characteristics they bring to the class. All my students are sweet and kind friends to that new student. Some offer to help a sad friend. Students in my class always want to help me. That may include cleaning desks, reading a book to the class, or picking up trash on the floor.
I have the most amazing 1st graders that deserve to be comfortable in a student-led learning environment.
Although the method and environment they learn best will vary depending on attention issues such as ADHD or behavior issues. I incorporate various learning strategies. I need to offer more alternative seating options to ensure my outstanding group of first graders’ needs are met! They are indeed are an incredible group of students, and I am so blessed and thankful to have a diverse group of learners who are excited and ready to learn!
My Project
Learning in a Student-Led Classroom creates excellent benefits for student engagement and learning! Even students in first grade benefit from a flexible seating environment. Students thrive in academics when given the option to control their physical environments in which they work best.
Our classroom has been working on flexible seating this year to give students greater flexibility and control of their surroundings, giving them autonomy and comfort.
With the research I have done, students stay engaged and focused. Student-led classrooms with choices lead to student engagement with whole group discussion and focus, linked to better academic performance and higher motivation, and improved overall behavior.
Teaching wonderful kids such a joy, and when students are at school, they are a classroom family. We want the best learning environment possible to help our students learn, grow, and thrive. With three standing desks added in our flexible classroom, we will improve learning for those with ADHD, Behavioral problems, or just a student that is tired of sitting for long periods. Students can stand and collaborate just as well as sitting.
Each child should have the choice of what works best for them.
