My Students

School classrooms can often be a very dull. My classroom is made more dynamic by incorporating film, art, discussion, and food into my classes so that students are better able to "see" themselves in the subject content.

My students are creative, active, boisterous, and curious.

They want to know more about the world outside of their small town. They love music, movies, and food. Our school is the center of the town and students receive a lot of support from members within it. My students enjoy creating whether it is through painting, drawing, writing short stories, and especially cooking. The culinary arts are one of the most exciting ways for empowering students through art in my classroom.

My Project

These resources will be used in all of my classes for students in grades 7-12. In US History when studying the American South and the relationship between rice cultivation and slavery my students will learn how to make rice. When we study water policy and industrialization in the American Northeast we will learn how to prepare different types of fish. When studying the Roaring '20s students will learn how to make Caesar Salad and the impact prohibition had on the American movie culture. In our life skills class we will be able to expand our unit about cooking healthy budget friendly meals. These induction burners, pots and pans, mixing bowls, and cooking gear will allow my students to form "kitchens" in our classroom and transform the physical space into a wonderful smelling kitchen.

Donations to this project will purchase cooking gear that will be used by students as they learn about foods and meals from around world and different periods of history.

Through my courses students will learn how to cook and be exposed to a diversity or recipes and foods that they can eat for life long health.
