My Students

The classroom is awash with color, wall space is in short supply, and art/office supplies litter the bookshelves. This year, student have made posters, comics, poems, and illustrations that show off talent and explain key concepts. They also listen to music and play games to learn multiple ideas.

My students are creative, active, boisterous, and curious.

They want to know more about the world outside of their small town. They love music, movies, and being involved in the community. Our school is the center of the town and students receive a lot of support from members within it. My students enjoy creating whether it is through painting, drawing, or writing short stories. These outlets give them an opportunity to express themselves, while also demonstrating mastery of Social Studies content.

My Project

Over the past year we have used and abused lots of markers, pencils, office supplies, game pieces, headphones, and other materials. The materials from back to school sales last August have been used to create posters, album covers, and more. Classroom art supplies are used on an almost daily basis by students in multiple grades. In addition to learning social studies content I think that it is important that my lessons are empowering students through art. During second period we might be coloring life size paper dolls and in fifth period students are making model houses out of foam board. Students walk into my classroom all day to borrow markers, scissors, pencils, and art materials for other classes.

Materials from this project will allow students to continue making art projects and keep learning creative and fun.

Foam board will be used to make stencils and architectural models. The art history activity books will allow me to plan units and lessons centered on empowering students through art projects so that they are more confident, creative, and learn more about history.
