Learning Exercise Science

My Students

Students at our middle school come from diverse backgrounds. With over 75% of our students on free and reduced lunch, they come to school with a broad range of challenges. Students and community members are unique in the fact that they take pride in their community and support each other. Often the people of Barberton who are born and raised here choose to stay here. The students in my STEM class love hands-on experiences, project based assignments and doing things that are innovative and technologically advanced.

My Project

Students in my 8th grade STEM class will learn all about the human body systems, how they work and how each system works and has an effect on the others. Students will learn about aspects of health, and how they can take care of their body through exercise and nutrition.

Students will participate in various aspects during this unit such as analyzing foods, creating healthy menus, learning the various tasks of each body system, and experimenting with various physical activities to analyze calorie burn.

My class can use this treadmill to calculate calories burned at varying levels of rigor as well as calculate resting and active heart rates.
