Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students come from Puerto Rico, Russia, Ukraine, Dominican Republic, Columbia, Venezuela, Honduras– lands far and wide. Some are pushed by the fear of violence, some are pulled in the hopes of seeking a better life for their children.
Help make our classroom a safe space where students from all walks of life feel comfortable communicating through artistic expression.
My students may be from different places, but they all have one thing in common; they are typical teenagers. And as typical teenagers, they retreat into the safety of their phones.
Imagine yourself sitting in a cozy chair next to a stranger from another country. You're shy but desperate to make a friend. You both open a page of the book and begin completing the pictures using your imagination and things you remember from your home country. You also begin speaking to each other. New friend made!
