Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The last day that I was with my students in our rainbow-hued, chaotic, noisy classroom was March 13, 2020. The calendar still shows the month of March, we were never able to share our Spring Break stories, compete in Field Day, and 4th grade is ending without closure.

While I still see most of my students online several times a week, nothing compares to sharing learning experiences face-to-face.

We've been playing games, reading picture books, reviewing previously taught topics, and simply supporting each other from afar. Some students are learning at home with their siblings, some have to spend the day with their grandparents while their parents are working, and some have had to leave town. This has been a struggle that none of us were prepared for.

My Project

Ask any teacher and they can share their struggles with distance learning and keeping students engaged. I would love to add a small document camera to our at-home learning supplies to help with instruction. Another great addition would be a whiteboard easel and dry erase prize wheel to use during video lessons.

One of the most important parts of our day is read aloud time.

Reading novels is difficult while at home, so I would love to add more picture books that can easily be shared during daily meetings. The great thing about everything we have requested is that it can be used at home and in the classroom.
