My students are a diverse group of second graders who are energetic, enthusiastic, and sweet. Our school is one of 11 in our large district, and each student comes from varying socioeconomic backgrounds. This background greatly shapes their views on learning. We also have a high transient population of students. My students are wise beyond their years and deserve an opportunity to just be a kid.
Our school provides many of the essential things needed for the school year to encourage and support our families.
These things are not only essential to the classroom, but to the students emotional and physical well being. My goal in the classroom is to cultivate a love for learning in a safe, positive, and encouraging environment.
My Project
Flexible seating options in the classroom are essential for student learning. When students feel safe and comfortable, their focus, participation, and confidence all grow.
The materials chosen - wobble cushions, soft seats, and floor chairs will give students an opportunity to feel comfortable in their space.
It also gives students the ability to work in a space other than their desk. This flexibility is crucial to student learning as education continues to grow and change with more technology and project based learning.
Each student's learning needs are different and I want to provide the best learning environment possible. These seating options will be used at student desks, in our reading and library center area, and at the teacher table.
More than half of students from low‑income households
