My Students

My classroom is full of enthusiastic, caring, and capable Kindergarteners. On the first day of school, they all logged in online and were ready to take on the challenge of distance learning, even though they had limited materials and technology.

My Kindergarteners are very eager to learn, even though they are learning in a virtual classroom.

The students are most engaged when I am reading a story, sharing videos and activities on my screen, or inviting them to do a show and tell during class. We also participate in a lot of brain breaks throughout our online class sessions to manage our wiggles and stay focused. If you were to join my virtual classroom, you would find my students actively participating while honing their digital citizenship skills.

My Project

The materials requested for this project will allow me to effectively infuse academics and fine motor skills into all subject areas taught virtually. As a result, my students will be able to develop their social-emotional and academic skills in a way that is fun and engaging.

The Little Spot book series includes SEL stories that will help students understand why they are learning through a virtual classroom and how they can make the best of it.

Students will be asked Who? What? When? Where? Why? How? questions, thus improving their speaking and listening skills. The whiteboards and dry erase markers will allow students to work on their fine-motor skills of drawing and handwriting during storytime or when solving math problems. The Play-Doh will give students an opportunity to improve their fine-motor skills while sparking creativity during or after a story or math lesson. The Rekenrek kits will be used for math lessons and also as a self-regulation tool for counting down and taking deep breaths.
