My Students

I have a wonderful class of 20 kindergarten students in a public school in the city of Buffalo. Most of these students come from low-income households. Many students can not afford basic school supplies and I do what I can to provide them with these materials.

I have over ten different languages spoken in my class, and over 30 different languages spoken in our school.

Some of my students do not speak any English at all, but they are learning. Some of these students have just come to America from other countries and some from refugee camps . It is challenging to teach students who speak limited to no English, but it is also very rewarding.

My students love to learn! Any resources that I can provide for them will encourage this love of learning!

My Project

My kindergarten students are ready to learn to read! The more opportunities to practice their early reading skills the better readers they will be. I am always looking for new and engaging activities for their learning areas.

Learning areas provide the opportunity for students to work independently or in small groups to practice the skills we are learning in class.

This skill reinforcement will help the students to become fluid readers. I have requested an Alphabet Bingo Game for the beginning of the year review and reinforcement of letter recognition. The Rhyming Sorting Houses will help them practice finding rhyming words. The Slide and Reveal Alphabet Apples is a fun way to practice what they know about letter sounds. I have also chosen word building activities that will help the students to use what they know about letter sounds to make new words.

With your donation to my project I will be able to provide my students with these fun and engaging activities to enhance the learning environment in my classroom.
