My Students

My students are excited to come to school each day and to learn from one another. They enjoy working in collaborative groups and sharing their knowledge with each other. They enjoy using their critical thinking skills to evaluate new information and integrating the arts to show their learning. They get very excited any time we can use technology in the classroom and they aren't afraid to try something new.

Jane Goodall once said, "You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you.

What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make." With this quote in mind, I want to help my students become aware of the impact they are having on the world around them.

My Project

Second grade is an important time for students. They begin to look outside of their family and to see the community around them. My students want to make a difference in their community, and this project will provide them with resources to do so. Earth Day is coming and my students want to make posters to help protect the environment. First we will use the 2 packs of chart paper and Sharpies to brainstorm ideas on how we can protect the environment. Next, students will work in collaborative groups and use the stamp pads along with the class set of oil pastels, watercolors, watercolor crayons, and Expo markers to do this. The posters they create for Earth Day will then be presented to their peers and hung in the hallway for all to see. We will use the sidewalk chalk on Earth Day to write messages on the blacktop. We will use the 2 stand up desks as a workstation. These will be a place for students to come together and collaborate.

Einstein once said, "Imagination is more important than knowledge." With these materials, my students will be to demonstrate their learning in meaningful ways as they use their imagination to share their knowledge with their classmates.

I can't wait to see what they create!
