Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world" - Nelson Mandela My school is a Title 1 elementary school with a large population of English language learners.

I have been teaching for 15 years, mainly in first and second grade.

Having this technological tool will allow me to increase my knowledge of technology and improve my teaching practice. I am always looking for new, creative ideas in order to enhance my lessons.

My Project

Having this iPad will help me analyze student data and create lessons that meet targeted skills. DIBELS is an assessment tool done on a computer that we use at my school which measures students' reading fluency rate and comprehension skills. I plan to use this device to help me analyze data and research lessons and skills for students not meeting benchmark goals. I recently attended a Common Core workshop which focuses on the implementation of the new standards. This device will help me research additional resources on-line such as Engage NY, the Teaching Channel, and Achieve the Core. The Teaching Channel has many examples of Close Reading strategies that I would like to explore. I would also like to learn about the different applications available to educators. Symbaloo is an application I would like to learn more about. I hope to be able to gain more knowledge to further my teaching practices.
