Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are naturally interested and fascinated by insects they see while outside on our playground and their curiosity makes them want to catch and observe the insects they find to make new discoveries about them.

Providing my young students with live insects (Bessbugs, Painted Lady butterfly larvae, ants, and ladybug larvae) in our classroom will assist with nurturing their curiosity about insects and enhancing their knowledge about insect features, behaviors, diets, habitats and life cycles.

Teaching my students about insects and providing them with opportunities to observe various insects up close will encourage them to make new discoveries and observations and learn new concepts such as Why does this insect look like this? Why does it need so many legs? What does it eat?

Having an understanding of insects may also encourage my students to be braver and not be fearful or frightened of these creatures. With a newfound understanding of insects my students will become empowered and instead of harming an insect they will be able to identify it and appreciate it.
