This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Bullying is real! Working in a high-need, high-poverty community in the South Bronx, the issue of bullying is all too common. Many students do not even seem to realize how their actions and words impact others; it has become the norm for many. Please help bring awareness and shed light on this issue.

The students are located in what has been deemed a high-needs/high-poverty area.

The 7th grade class who is hoping to see BULLY is an amazing cohort of students. They are hard-working, dedicated and strong students who have overcome much adversity in their lives. They struggle with day-to-day pressures of being young adults in this community but try their best to overcome the pressures. They are a great group of students who are extremely deserving.

My Project

The class trip to watch the documentary BULLY is more than getting out of the building for a day. It is about inspiring a child to see life in a different way, from a different perspective than they are used to. Watching this film would allow my students to make real world/ real life connections. It will bring to light the serious dangers that can arise from one's actions and words towards another individual - it will show them that bullying IS real. Finally, my hope is that it will help continue to mold my students into model citizens who are conscious of the way that their words and actions impact others around them.

The students here need to see this documentary.

They are the audience that the documentary targets and it is because of their need to understand the severity of bullying and how it impacts lives that we are requesting this funding. The 7th grade cohort at this school are students that would otherwise not have the opportunity to see this documentary, this is the only chance.
