My Project

Our middle school students have big emotions and are learning how to navigate them in the best way possible. This project would bring reputable self-help and social emotional learning literature and workbooks to aid students in their quest to self-regulate, cope with difficult feelings, and foster a love for themself. In a nook of our library we have dedicated a space where students can retreat to find a pocket of peace in their day. In this space, I envision a library of material that would be a tool for them to use when they are learning about themselves, their feeling and emotions, and some practical ways to combat and calm them in the height of the hard moments.

If this project is funded students will have access to the materials right away, and it would complement the space designed to allow self-reflection and introduce new coping strategies.

We are getting ready to open our newly remodeled and dedicated space and there is a bookshelf ready for materials I have selected. It would be the most amazing gift to have this material available for students in this new space.

Additionally, I would be able to select a book to use with small groups, copy the worksheets to do as a group, and lead morning mindfulness and meditation workshops on our delayed start Wednesdays. This one project can really make an impact in a big way for our whole school and the small groups and classrooms where students would benefit from new material for our SEL lessons each month.
