My Students

A June bug is just one of the thank you gifts I have gotten from working in our garden Now I want to give students worms and tools to discover them!

My students are in a challenging place.

They live in an area plagued by violence, and historically low expectations. There is so much pressure in every direction except... the garden. Working in the soil, these youth are the community's assets. They have worked to improve the community and specifically the school's garden. These students are so inspiring.

My Project

My students need worms, magnifiers and stop-watches to discover science for themselves! You can give them the opportunity to see how one man's trash (a banana peel) can turn into another man's treasure (a gardener's worm casting.) We already have a worm bin and the interest from students to make the system happen. By helping our school buy the supplies to complete hands on labs, you are turning my students into teachers and empowering them with the tools of independent learning.

My students will be able to develop their observation skills with these items.

These lab tools and worms, with careful planning, will help students become the independent thinkers we need in the community
