My Students

The students that I work with come from a variety of educational backgrounds. Our school is a kindergarten through 8th grade, NYC public school where students with language, learning, and motor impairments, are integrated into a general education setting. Children have all different learning methods. By incorporating phonemic awareness games it gives them visuals, auditory, sensory ways to learn. Additionally, giving them fun ways to learn language supports them to learn curricular materials. It helps provide a multi-modality learning experience.

As a speech therapist, my role is to not only help children improve their speech and language skills, but to aid students in becoming contributing members of their classroom community and to successfully access their curriculum.

My Project

Vowels are the hardest sounds to put into words. The Jet Harbor game will make learning vowels fun! Students will learn to tell stories by sequencing them. They will use the sequencing card to understand the set up of a story and how to verbally tell others what the story is about. The phonemic awareness folders will help children to learn to read. That way they will be able to read to learn about the wonderful things in the world. Literacy is key to academic success. I want to make sure my students have all the tools possible to succeed.
