This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students will be utilized to revitalize our school garden & tower garden systems. Once our school was a STEM charter school with a focus on "farm to table" where there was a budget for such items; but we are now a school system with STEM classrooms with more of a focus on robotics and coding, with little money left to maintain the garden. It has been several years since the garden has been used, so it needs a lot of love. That's where your donation can help!

My goal for this project is to spark a love of nature, get students interested in gardening & where their food comes from, and for students to learn the respect and responsibility it takes to maintain a garden and work with other people for a community garden.

Hunger and increasing prices of food is such a problem on our planet right now. Teaching these students how to farm and provide for themselves is a skill that they can learn and use for the rest of their lives. Also, it may spark an interest in a career path for many because we obviously always need food!

My students are amazing kids that live in a suburb of Atlanta. The school is located in the city limits of our little town, and it is quite awesome! I teach Pre-k through 5th grade, including students with special needs. Most of the students at our school are from low-income homes and we find they have not been exposed to many of the skills learned from gardening.
