I absolutely love teaching my students. They are creative, intelligent, and hilarious. I love how they take the Spanish they learn in class and use it in different situations. I love how they are curious to know more!
In class, my goal is to give my students "real life" situations where they will use Spanish.
I do this through a variety of methods: basic conversations, songs, and stories. My students really connect and shine when they are given these opportunities!
My Project
Many people tell me, "I took 4 years of Spanish in high school and don't remember anything." Unfortunately, they were taught with ineffective methods. Many foreign language teachers are switching gears to a more natural approach, using stories and songs to engage their students.
There has been a dramatic increase in the use of Spanish among my students since we started reading stories.
I have students that struggle to remember vocab words, but they can tell me a sentence from a book we've read because we have discussed it in a more natural setting. Furthermore, I love seeing the feeling of accomplishment that my students have because they have read a book in Spanish!
