Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students are charming, hard working, smart, and desperately want to make their teachers and parents proud. I teach 3rd grade in a public school in Sandy Springs, GA. Over 95% of my students are Hispanic and have parents that have 2-3 working class jobs. My students are so smart and curious and lovely. They are working so hard to be successful in academics which are not their first language. In addition, most of them do not have parents who have the time or the language skills to help them as many other kids do!
My Project
Our school has a population which is 95% or greater of students who are learning English as a second language. We work very hard on their literacy skills.
Our students have math skills that are often significantly below grade level.
I am working to establish a math library in our classroom. It will be a cozy area with its own book shelf and books, where students can read books that are related to math. They can learn some basic math concepts and practice reading! Its a win-win! I will also use these books as a read aloud to the class! Thanks!
