My Project

I wish for my engineering students to build and keep Joule Thief nightlights.

Looking for a purpose for an almost-dead AA battery?

Not anymore! Now with the power of electrical engineering and the use of small micro digital electronic components like resistors, capacitors, transistors and the use of a light sensor, we can resurrect your old AA batteries to be the power source of LED nightlights.

This circuit is also known by other names such as joule resurrection circuit (JRC), joule ringer, blocking oscillator, vampire torch, or battery vampire. It can use nearly all of the energy in a single-cell electric battery, even far below the voltage where other circuits consider the battery fully discharged (or "dead"); hence the name, which suggests the notion that the circuit is stealing energy or "joules" from its source.
