Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach science to children in first through fifth grade in a Title 1 school located in New York City. Throughout the year we cover topics ranging from force and motion to health nutrition, and everything in between. The students love diving into science hands-first.

When the fourth graders discovered the negative impact humans can have in the environment they were outraged.

They presented all they learned in research projects which hung in our hallways. Students of all ages began noticing the trash around our school community and inside of it too. They want to see a change in the way we dispose of our trash.

My Project

I am asking for sorting and recycling resources including eight green Deskside Recyclers, eight medium plastic Deskside Recycling Containers, a Slim Jim Recycling Container with Venting Channels, one Eucational Insights See-Through Compost Container, eight Professional Rectangular Wastebaskets, and a Highboy Waste Container. The materials requested in this project will help the students to recycle properly in every room of the school. When one or two trash cans are missing in rooms, proper sorting of trash just does not happen. The Green Team is passionate about creating a clean and sustainable community within and around our school, however we are lacking some necessary supplies.

To help us become a Zero Waste School, we need the proper tools.

Giving the students the opportunity to see what actually happens when we compost our food scraps, they will be more motivated to sort our the waste they create properly.
