My Students

I work in a school with many students who receive free breakfast and lunch. These students families struggle to provide all they need for supplies and so I do my best to provide for them in order to help each child have the tools to succeed. I am a teacher of a special education classroom with up to 13 students who struggle to meet grade-level expectations. It is difficult for these students to learn in a typically structured classroom environment. It is my intention to create a welcoming and comfortable environment where students can use technology that helps them learn best.

My Project

Computers with full keyboards will help my students across multiple areas and give them various entry points and support in learning.

Having a physical keyboard not only helps students with letter and numbers identification but also an increase in fine motor skills but touching a physical keyboard.

Students will be able to easily watch educational videos, on their own time, at their own pace. With touch screen devices and inputs, students will be able to see their math work on screen and have the ability to share with the Smartboard and class. With computers synced to teachers computers, appropriate work, games, and videos can be sent to students' computers as soon as they need it.

Computers will allow students to use voice to text recognition, and other Chromebook applications that will help better support learning in both reading and writing. Digital supports such as 'Immersive Reading' will be able to read aloud texts, even word problems, to students, customized to their learning style. Students will be able to customize the sound, speed, size, text color, and background color that better supports their learning style and comfort.

Not only will computers help students in the classroom, but computers will help students begin to be better 'tech-savvy' and will give them a headstart for the technological future they will have.
