My Students

I teach students with severe cognitive and behavioral delays in Queens, NY. As a teacher, I can see my students are dedicated, hardworking, and exceptionally respectful and need all the support that they can get. The majority of my middle school students are severely below grade level due to multiple disabilities including Autism and varied Intellectual Disabilities. Additionally, they come from home lives that often can't meet their individual levels of need both financially and academically. They need help with materials and supplies that can provide them with opportunities to practice functional living skills in the classroom. This year our school is applying a new functional curriculum to help meet the earliest needs of many of the students. This curriculum calls for a TON of daily teaching materials and resources that I just cannot afford. From life skills materials to individual reinforcements (motivating items that low motivated students will work for) and back again, my budget just can't handle replenishing these items for every student as they go through them. I am asking for your help! I know my students can be independent and take care of themselves in the future.

My Project

The iPad will help my students access technology to help learn about daily living skills. These items will provide them technology access while watching videos about daily living skills and hygiene like brushing teeth and applying deodorant. These materials are super important as they will bring my students equal opportunities to practice and showcase their skills. They will be able to practice, watch, model and apply the daily living skills like in their lives with all the confidence and independence. The Learn to Brush Demonstration Kit will help them learn about brushing teeth with this hands-on kit. The Party Snacks Variety Snack Box will be used as a motivator to help them build the skills. The Party Snacks Variety Snack Box is necessary for the rewards program in my classroom when students earn points for having a good behavior or learning/acquiring a skill.

These materials will bring my students' equal opportunity to learn and practice the functional skills in the classroom.

These things will play a great role in having an effective classroom environment and instruction for my students.
