Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember using the latest technology in school?

My students live in the inner city.

They pass sights and sounds that no child should have to on a daily basis simply traveling to and from school. Many students deal with difficult situations but they have a positive attitude when they come to school.

My Project

This year, I am teaching music and a technology class that will incorporate computer programming with Scratch, operating system installation with Linux, basic HTML programming and embedding, troubleshooting, and diagnostics. I want to add a 21st century unit that includes 3D printing that will prepare my students for the work force they will enter in just a few years. We have already made a phone case, a trombone mouthpiece, and even a clarinet reed! We need more filament and tape to continue exploring and learning. I want them to explore, grow, and create with the latest technology.

Please, for many of my students, school is just another thing they have to do until they're old enough to drop out or finally graduate.

Many don't look towards college or technical school primarily because they don't know what's out there. This system, even though it's only one, will open so many doors for them. There are things they haven't even begun to imagine they can do with this 3D printer! Consider giving my students a real chance in the world.
