My Students

My students are a creative bunch. I am in awe with how much four-year-olds can actually retain. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are forced to teach remotely. I would like to continue to teach my students for sometime extra during the summer months. I will need more resources and do not have these on hand resources to make my virtual classroom similar to our in school classroom. My students are imaginative and fun-loving kids. They come from low-income households and have not had much experience with the world outside their small community and our community of learners classroom.

The department of education has provided an iPad for every family that requested one but in order for me, as the teacher to continue to give my best, I need the opportunity to plan my lessons and therefore I need props.

Many of the students do not have the ability to print the worksheets or pages required, so I have the task to also try to create authentic experiences for the students. Despite the hardships they are facing with school being closed, they are eager learners and some are facing other hardships at home, by asking parents to become teachers.

My Project

As we Zoom and my students see the LEGO sets, that we will be able to reuse for years to come with other classes, they can better visualize the community helper and begin a discussion about what they think that person does in our community.

At this particular time in our history, the medical profession has become the frontline for this virus and we would like to learn what each career entails and I cannot think of a better way to show than using Legos which my students love to build with.

The doctor, nurse, firefighter, police officer, EMT, and so on. It is not enough to have a picture in a magazine, we need something tangible and a LEGO is just that for a four and five-year-old.
